Well after staying in 28 places in 29 day, I finally lost somethig.
Coffee shop caps. Don't know why they call them that, I have never worn them into a coffee shop. They
really are dirt caps that prevent dirt and other foreign particles form getting into the Speedplay bike shoe cleats. You put them on the shoe before walking with these type of cleats on you bike shoes. If you get too much dirt or sand into a Speedplay cleat, you can get your shoe stuck on pedal and are unable to disengage your shoe from the pedal. Obviously this can have disasterous effects. This has happened to me.
I didn't actually lose the cap, I knew I lost it, I just couldn' find where it was. I lost it when I was at the top of the pass before descending into the Big Hole while I was looking for the meaning of life. I ended up looking for a $5 cleat cover instead. I did anticipate losing one of these caps, they fall off all the time, so I brought 5 extra ones. Also brought 4 extra sets of cleats too. I lost a cleat in Switzerland and ended up having to buy new pedals and cleats.
I remember seeing a prairie dog where I lost the cap, he was a scout. He was on the perimeter of the field and spotted me, and made a bunch of barking noises to alert his friends. Prairie dogs have over 200 sounds they make which all have individual meanings. Hopefully he found the cleat cover, he could use it as a bed or a recliner.
I did break my one day old speed record by 0.7 mph descending into the Big Hole by hitting 46.9 mph. I thought I could reach 50, even went into a tight tuck. But I have lost so much weight on this tour that I probably did not have enough mass to reach 50.
