Totals
1,679 miles riden
95,167 ft climbed
139:04 hours elapsed time, time front wheel is turning, and rear wheel too.
167: 30 hours total time, time from getting on the bike in the morning until finishing later in the day.
We started 30 days ago in NM. All I remember from NM is getting sick. Then the incredible mountain passes of Colorado, and the ferocious headwinds of Wyoming. Then riding
through Montana and almost having the tour end because of a dangerous manuever by a car driver.
I am in Missoula now, segment 7 of 12 is complete now. Timberline divided this tour into 3 segments and this is the conclusion of segment two. Some riders will leave the tour now and somw will join. We changed tour leaders again a few days ago.
The last time I was in Missoula was at the end of the bike tour in 2001. I remember lying on the bed thinking I had the flu. I just happened to turn on the TV, I almost never turn on the TV on these tours. CNN was talking about a lineman from the Minnesota Vikings named Corey Stringer who had just died from heat stroke. They started going through his symptons and as they read off each one, I kept saying to myself, I have that one, I have that one. Soon I realized that I was starting to get heat stroke. Then CNN starting listing things to do if you have these symptoms. Turning on the TV and to that station might have saved my life. That is how I knew right away what was happening to me in NM this year.
Segment three is probably going to be the best part. Several almost 100 miles days, but then the reward will be riding through Glacier. Then several longs days in Canada, but then we will finish the tour in the Canadian Rockies, the location of my first ever bike tour.
