The Mummy Returns -Day 4

Today was an unbelievable day of cycling, 85 miles with the last 65 miles with a 30 to 40 mile an hour tailwind. I was going 25 to 30mph without even pedaling. This went on for three hours, I have never experienced anything like this before. Off on the distance in the desert terrain, I saw high waves of dust and sand moving at 40 mph, it looked like a scene right out of "The Mummy Returns" when the waves of sand roar across the desert. About 5 miles before I got to the hotel, I turned west and directly into to 40mph winds and dust and sand blowing everywhere. I managed to just reach the hotel as the sand storm really intensified. I took shelter in my motel room as watch the sand storm out the window in amazement. There was one horse in a corral by himself, with no shelter from the storm. I felt so bad for the horse. I later found out that the horse was being "broken" and having a shelter would have been a reward for the horse. The manager of the hotel owned the horse and was trying t
o establish domination over the horse. If I would have seen the manager, I would have"broken" him.
I attached a photo of the motel as the sandstorm intensified, but I don't think the photo is good enough to really see what was going on.

How nice that the wind decided to help you on your way to Canada, giving you a break from pedaling - a little unexpected joy, and certainly something to remember. On the sandstorm, I remember those from LA, along with the hot Santa Ana winds that seem to go on for days driving people crazy. Sherry
