Welcome to Colordo

You might notice there is no photo of Welcome to Colorado with this post. That is because I arrived in Colorado by van instead of bicycle and missed the coveted shot of the welcome sign.
After 440 miles in the high heat of th NM desert I became dehydrated and got heat stroke. I don't feel very well right now. Last night I was really sick, with fever and chills. I have had heat stroke before so I knew what was happening to me. I was within a few minutes of asking to go to the hospital, the tours leaders were asking me if I wanted to go. Even though I was drinking a lot of water, it appearantly was running right through me along with flushing out on the nutrients too. Heat stroke is an odd thing, you actually get cold. That is because the body senses it is in trouble and starts shunting blood to the vital organs. The reduced blood flow to the skin reduces the amount of heat carried to the skin, raising your core temperature, which makes the body shunt even more blood to the organs, a viscious cycle. Left untreated it can be fatal. Anyhow, I feel like shit, the chills are mostly gone but I have no appetite. Just about every part of my body hurt rights now from the ridin
g especially my back and wrists. I am fairly discouraged right now. But I also know not to make too much of your thoughts when you are sick, its easy to get depressed when you are sick. Soon I will feel better and hopefully get back on the bike in a day or two.
